How to use MEFi

STEP 1
PREPARING TO USE

Depending of the type of drum that you have, either remove the Micro-Matic Valve or Second Bung to gain access to the product

Important – Follow the product's SAFETY DIRECTIONS and wear appropriate personal protection gear when handling product. Make sure the drum is sitting on a relatively flat and level surface before using MEFi.

STEP 2
LOCK IN THE VOLUME REQUIRED

MEFi allows spray operators to set and lock the volume of product that you need to remove from the drum. e.g., Let’s say you need 60L of product for a spray tank load. Slightly loosen the Round Eye Bolt (Part E) located on the side of the Black Nylon Collar (Part A) and then slide the Liquid Out Measuring probe (Part B) so the 60L mark touches the top surface of the collar. Lock the probe in this position by slightly tightening the Round Eye Bolt.

NOTE – over tightening the Round Eye Bolt is not required and will damage the tube and thread.
Always position the probe's scale AWAY from the Round Eye Bolt so that you do not damage the numbering and marks on the scale. MEFi has been calibrated based on a rule that the mark of the scale just touches or is just above the top of the Nylon Collar. The second threaded hole below the Round Eyebolt is a back up.

HANDY TIP – Never insert MEFI into a full drum of product with the Liquid Out Probe in the empty 110L position and then move the Liquid Out Probe upwards to the volume you need. This will cover the scale in product and move product upwards and through the nylon collar.

STEP 3
INSTALL MEFI INTO THE 110L DRUM

Lower MEFI with the liquid out probe (B) locked with the volume of product required, into the drum opening.
Ensure the MEFI thread and the thread on the drums opening seat well before rotating the black collar (C) clockwise. Rotate clockwise approximately 1.5 revolutions until a firm fit is achieved.

HANDY TIP – If the type A Male Camlock fitting is not facing where it needs to be pointing for access to the pumping gear, loosen the locking Round Eye Bolt and rotate the liquid out probe to where it needs to be and re-tighten the locking Round Eye Bolt.
Keep a track of what you’re removing from your drum using a marker pen e.g., 110L minus 60L leaves 50L . If you require another 60L, your next volume will be 50L from this drum and 10L from another drum.

STEP 4
CONNECT YOUR PUMP SUCTION LINE

MEFI is supplied with widely-used 'Type A' male Camlock fittings. Connect to your pumps suction line (LHS) and to the Yellow Liquid Out Probe camlock and start transferring product into your spray tank.
HANDY TIP – Regularly inspect connectors for leaks and ensure that the o-rings are present and are in good shape. If you only have one suction line off your pump and it is hard plumbed to a micro-matic coupler, install a Camlock junction so it can be interchanged easily (photo RHS).

STEP 5
LISTEN TO YOUR PUMP

MEFI works by removing product out from the top of the drum, not the bottom. As a result, when the volume you required has been removed, 'AIR' will enter the system and the pump will start to cavitate. No need to look where the level of the liquid is at and then to guestimate how much product has been added to your spray tank. MEFi will remove the volume that you have selected. Just listen to your pump as it will tell you when that set volume has been dispensed.

If using more than one product, continue with your tank preparation until completed and then proceed to spray out your tank load.

HANDY TIP – As with good spray preparation procedures, always flush your pumps suction lines with water prior to moving to your next product

STEP 6
YOUR NEXT SPRAY LOAD /SPRAY VOLUME

You’re back for another spray load and need let's say another 60 L of product. Your 110L drum has 50L remaining after taking out 60 L for the first load. To remove the remaining product in the drum, loosen the Round Locking Eye Bolt until the Liquid Out Probe (B) slides down the collar (A) and stops or hits the bottom of the drum.
This is the empty position on the 110L mark. If the Liquid Out Probe hits the floor of the drum, lift the Liquid Out Probe up slightly so that the flow rate is not restricted. Start pumping but monitor as the time to start flushing the drum clean is the next step.

STEP 7
REMOVING ALL THE PRODUCT IN THE DRUM

MEFi is equipped with a Water In Port (C) which has a custom designed exit water points (D) with one vertical and four horizontal exit water points. When connected to a high pressure water source (eg. fire fighter, HP spray pump outlet), water is directed to all surfaces of the drum resulting in removal of all product from the container into your boom and a very clean drum.

  1. When the drum is almost empty and can be moved easily, connect the above stated water source to the water in flushing port and start adding water to the drum while still pumping.
  2. Manage the flow rate of water entering the drum so that enough water enters the drum to clean the drum and Liquid Out Probe.
  3. The water port will pivot approximately 270 degrees. Facilitate cleaning by moving the water hose from left to right multiple times to ensure the drum surfaces are covered with the pressurised water.
  4. cleaning cycle of about 5 minutes is recommended. Best results are achieved when a lot of water us used in this process.

HANDY TIP – Only add water when you require the drum to be completely emptied. Carefully monitor the water in flow rate if it is greater than the pump out flow rate. Use of sufficient water is also needed to clean MEFI both internally and externally.

STEP 8
REMOVING AND CLEANING MEFI

Remove MEFi while the Liquid Out Probe (B) head or elbow is in the empty position. If required,
use a low pressure hose to clean the probe as you are removing it.
HANDY TIP – Never leave MEFi in an part used drum. The unit must be removed and cleaned in
such situations. Build up of suspension concentrate can occur over time is the cleaning cycle is
not undertaken thoroughly. Clean thoroughly if this occurs. Do not hit the probe externally as this
will cause damage. Close the drum openings to avoid entry of water or foreign material into the
container.
STORAGE
MEFi is made using durable and long lasting 316L stainless steel fittings. A light coat of oil prior to
it going into storage will help reduce the chance of rust and extend its longevity. With the Black
Nylon Collar locked at the bottom of the liquid out probe, MEFi can be stored vertically by hooking
it up via the Eye Bolt on an appropriate
fitting.
